Feel free to talk about anything here!😎
I am curious what do you guys look for on there?
I think nowadays the community-building channel is full of noise. Because more people are on there now. Still you can find cool people like john Saddington to follow. But I started to shift drom a leaner on IH to an observer on IH now.
Where else do you get community building tips from?
A little hack that I think you and me both experienced many times.
See a lot of people don’t know what they are saying but they write on the internet. The longer I am in the game the more I can distinguish “fake contents”.
A lot of people give “advises” actually does not know what they are talking about, they write a comment because that made them look smart.
I got an example from my lasted post: https://www.indiehackers.com/post/free-community-is-a-different-game-from-paid-community-77815d5c5a?commentId=-MCj2r6PTAOEnRkRNO9R
There was a guy who commented and said start charging after 5k, I was amazed at first I thought why 5k? lol and then he just said he just came up with it, then I asked him if he has done anything related? He said no.
that’s basically saying, hey all u need to do is to get a VISA to go to china(which everyone knows), but not telling you have to go thru a complicated process to get it. lol
The other day I was on twitter and I saw someone mentioned newletter for business, adopting a B2B form. I kept wondering what business need. And I figure a lot of business are getting their info from different places. It would be great if you can create a community for businesses to get info from.
It’s like indie hacker but divided by more niche.
I kind of want to do a workshop that fits everyone this Friday. Do you guys have any time open this Friday? Would be fun to meet each other. :)
Can you guys comment below when will be good for you guys on friday?
Hey guys, I am working on something right now. It’s not ready for the world yet, but I am super excited!
One thing that has been drawing my attention these days is the coming up of a new semester. This is super headaching for me right now, because I don’t want to go back to SF , there is only 4 required hours to be on campus per week. Hated it lol.
but anyway, how are you guys hanging? how are yall communities and projects?
I miss chatting with you guys this weekend hahah. I know
I am currently helping out the owner of my school’s real estate company’s yelp rating. It is terrible. So I decided to ask good questions to sense out the satisfied users and ask them to rate on yelp as a part of the plan.
But the owner handed me to VP, that was when I realize there is nothing I can do to save this million-dollar company.
She declined every single question on the survey I designed. Because I asked customers what is their biggest problem with us, the VP said it was set up for bad reviews. She complained about the logo was off the center and all the minor details. She said I was not professional for three times in the notes.
Eventually, I decided to just hand this part to her and ask her to locate these people, she told me she will “feel them out”. I cracked up so hard and I had to hold it during the meeting.
I think one of the biggest reasons why old businesses decline is that they get comfortable with what they have. They think what used to make them million is going to keep on making them millions. But the truth is, the newer methods provide efficiency and your competitor will learn that. What you will end up with is losing market shares dramatically.
So I saw this page here and if u go down to the bottom, it mentioned about lyft.
But the way they phrased it it does not say if lyft is their customer, and I dont think lyft use them. I am wondering is it legal for them to do that lol?
I updated my cover letter to mention that I’m a community builder online. A decade ago, people would’ve laughed if I said I had an instagram following, or you know, like more than 500 facebook friends. There wasn’t a concept of “followers”, “influence”, or online communities. The only real community builders were civic leaders - presidents of the local chamber of commerce, or politicians, other kinds of in person groups.
Even now, I feel like its a little risky in my profession, being a lawyer. Saying you have a life outside your work is not really something employers care about - it’s an obstacle for them. It means the employee won’t be a good widget and might be distracted.
But with recent events, I think public and private institutions are realizing we cannot hide from social issues. And it’s not just hiring people who have non-profit experience, but hiring people who understand the framework of building teams and communities - even within an organization. Because so much of what we’re dealing with today is systemic within institutions.
Tmr will be the day that #benjamin cohort start their 5 day course on community/project building. I am pretty excited! I hope you guys will come out knowing the process of building.
So the way it’s gonna roll is I will post course content under #announcement every day in the afternoon(San Francisco), so that will be the morning of<Shanghai> and <Galway>!
Please feel free to reach out to me if you need any help!🎉
I have been working on a questionnaire to send to businesses that have signed up to our website galwaytogether.com
Questions I'm thinking of now are.
1. What else can Galway Together offer your business that you may be struggling with online - marketing, design etc?
2. Would you be interested in being featured on a weekly newsletter (email each week on the history of your business, how it grew to where it is now). Make the experience for shoppers more personal.
3. As of now there is a very simple web page for your business, would you like this to be more elaborate, better design, graphics etc?
4. Would you like the option of having your own business profile on Galway Together that you can manage yourself?
5. Any thoughts, suggestions you would like to add?
Right now I'm thinking Ads on the site will be the main revenue generator. I'm finding it difficult to know what questions could open up the site to possible revenue streams.
Would any of you have any suggestions on this? What other questions to ask?
If you need more info on Galway Together just let me know 😁
Hi guys, I realized that a lot of y’all are busy tomorrow, so I decided to switch the meet up from Thursday to Friday.
<Friday 12PM San Francsico><Friday 2PM Texas><Friday 8PM Galway>
Hope this one has a higher chance of seeing everybody😁
earlier today I throw the same question on my twitter. https://twitter.com/kangle_lin/status/1275614095912230912?s=20
I am curious what do you guys use in your system?
Hi all, just thought I would share a very useful website I came across https://saasforcovid.com/. The site highlights SaaS products that have a Covid-19 discount. Myself and a colleague have started a community (trying to gain more traction and decide what to do with it) for local businesses that were and were not affected by the pandemic.
Using https://saasforcovid.com/ we reached out to Airtable and got 1 years free use of their Pro plan for our backend and Continual gave us a years free use of their bot.
The site is definitely worth checking out!
Hi guys, I am hosting a workshop/hangout at 6pm on Thursday (San Francisco time). Hope to be able to see y’all and be able to follow up on the latest updates on the projects. We will probably have new people join us from #Benjamin cohort. I am so excited!
Every hangout always ends up with good reflections on the projects! always a great way to get obstacles discussed. Feel free to join us and welcome members of #Benjamin cohort!
I really want a daughter🐒. Being a dad is one of the coolest things a person can do in his life!
Unfortunately, I don’t have any kids, yet. 😅 But I know some of you are DADS here. Today is Father’s day, I want to say: Happy Father’s Day to all the dads here. I wish y’all a lot of success no only in community building, but also in parenting. To me, the core of community building is about love. And a family is always the most important community that a person can ever have!
Happy Father’s day!
I encourage everyone to battle the problem like Abdul. I think he has come a long way and made progress. Hit some dead ends, but it’s beneficial. Love what you are doing with your community man!
I hope to see more ppl joining our workshops! Hopefully, soon we will meet a small number of a new batch of people into our community.
We talked about the Importance of customer interviews and went over some details on how to chat with a customer. I realized that this type of discussion really helps people to improve their interview skills and better collect the data.
Since this is the 1st step and people often get stuck here so often. I am going to host a <Mom Test Workshop> this Friday at 4 pm San Francisco time. I would love to have you guys joining me on this one.
I attached zoom link in the thread! and if you cannot join because of the timing problem, plz comment below, we can make some small changes I think since we are small.
This might be useful to people. I’m doing another course and we’re creating “ecosystems” so really identifying who we’re trying to get in front of. It’s about mapping where these people “live” in the digital world. Here’s my blank Notion board of it, if you want to copy the framework - https://www.notion.so/jackseddon/0a86e5022af84e918173af6f95f06912?v=628e0ca4d26d4d149238ec4d66495ba0 and here is the board that I’ve started filling out for who I want to get in front of - https://www.notion.so/jackseddon/fdb97aa2897a4b11864e1119f3201016?v=0f818676066844a3a3e5759ef802bd74
Hey guys, I would encourage you guys to change your profile picture on this website. It will automatically change your profile picture on pubb.at.
An amazing tool that I just discovered lol. I believe @Cleiton found it before I did haha.
